Arrived in Mexico !!

¡Hola! Finally, I arrived in Mexico City!
I could get some sleep during my flight, but I was very tired.

In addition, I had to try several ATMs to withdraw some cash with my credit card, but I couldn't.
(I am not sure what is happening, but I will call the credit card company once I get my local cell phone.)
I could exchange US dollars(I had them with me just in case) to Mexican pesos, so I will be able to survive a few more days.
I had found that the cheapest way to get pesos was to use my credit card, but my research was not good enough...

I thought I would have fallen asleep once I have entered my hotel room, but actually I couldn't.
I found it with What's up that some of team members who had already arrived at the hotel were waiting for me in the lobby. (We had shared our flight information.)
What a nice surprise!

It was already past 3 pm, but we went to have lunch together in a Mexican restaurant. (2 - 4pm is actually Mexican lunch time !)
I tried Enchiladas, and it was really good !!

We are still waiting for 7 more members.
We will have a welcome dinner tomorrow night.
Our coordinator said, "You have only today and tomorrow for free time, and then you will be very very busy".

I really need to recover from a jet lag ASAP !!

Transit in Dallas - ダラスで乗り継ぎ

無事にトランジットのダラス空港に着きました。

ダラスは昨年出張で訪れて以来のおよそ一年ぶり。

驚いたのは、自動入国審査端末が導入されていて、長〜い列に並ばずに簡単に素早く手続きが出来たこと！

15年前に妹と二人でメキシコに旅行した時はテキサス経由で、9.11の後だったこともあって、入国手続きにものすごーく時間がかかったことを思い出しました。

改善されていて素晴らしい！

(個人的には一番入国で待たされたフランスに導入して欲しいけど。。)


時間がタップリあるので、空港をぶらぶらしていたらで懐かしいものを発見！

1年前のダラス出張の時におつかいで頼まれて買ったウィスキー。
どうやら有名になった？のかな？空港でも買えるってことですね！
前回は、12年ぶりに車を運転しておっかなびっくり指定された酒屋まで行ったのに〜〜😭
でも頑張って買いに行った甲斐があり、普段は飲まないウィスキーだけど、とても美味しかったです。

Leaving Japan for Mexico !! - いよいよ出発

昨日は職場の皆さんからの激励を受け+ちょっぴり心配されながらも、快く送り出してもらいました。

結局パッキングが終わったのは夜中の2時。
ブログの最初の投稿をして、なんだかんだでベッドに入ったのは3時過ぎ。
たった睡眠時間2時間半だけど、妙に身体は元気で、今は予定通りにスカイライナーにて成田空港へ移動中です。

家を出る前、まだベッドでまどろむ次男の隣に潜り込み、お別れのハグ。いつもは、「ママ、きもい〜〜」と言って退けるのに、ぎゅっと抱き返してきました。
長男は自ら腕を伸ばしてきて久しぶりのハグ。もう私の身長と同じくらいに大きくなっていて頼もしい。最後は握手でお別れ。
家を出るところで、なんだかウルウルしてきてしまって、
今更ながら、
やっと旅立ちの実感が。。。
いざ出発となると、やっぱり一ヶ月は長い！
私の選択は正しかったのか？、、、一瞬の迷いが出てきたけど、でもそれも一瞬で打ち消して出発。

とにかく、今は、元気にミッションを終えて無事に帰ってくること！

このプログラムに参加したくてもいろんな事情で叶わない人たちがいる中で、私は本当にラッキーだなと思っています。感謝、感謝です。
Mexico 8 チームの中でも、一人のメンバーのお母様の手術が急に決まり、術後の看病のために最後の最後でチームを去ることになってしまいました。同じサブチームでもあったので本当に残念です。
人生、いつ何が起こるか本当にわからない。

私たちのMexico8チームは全員で14名、まさに文字通り世界中からメキシコに集合します。
チームで共有しているWhat's up (US版のLINEみたいなもの) には、次々出発の報告が入ってきて、いよいよだなぁって感じがしてきています。

もうすぐ成田空港に到着！
始めてのブログで何を書くのが相応しいのか手探り状態ですが、今後も様々な活動やその時の私の気持ちをこのブログで共有していきたいです。

My feelings before leaving

It's 2 am in Japan. I finally finished packing, but I still cannot believe that I will leave here for Mexico in 5 hours.
It is always very exciting when I start something new, but at the same time, it makes me nervous.

• Can I really contribute the project?
• Can I communicate with my clients or my team members in English smoothly?
• Will my children be really OK without me at school and home?
• Will be there many mosquitoes in Mexico? (I really hate them!)
• Can I communicate with local people with my poor Spanish?

Actually, I have had private Spanish lessons for 2 months. It was weekly 2 hour lesson, which was very hard, but also very fun. My teacher was a native Spanish speaker, but most of the time, he spoke Japanese (because I could not understand him at all...)
I thought Spanish was very similar to English, but it is not true. Grammar is the most difficult part. I hope I will be able to get some practical Spanish skills in Mexico.

Now, I am going to get some sleep. I am not sure I really will be able to, but I will try.
